The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, Army General Raul Castro Ruz, presided over a meeting of the Political Bureau on Tuesday. The encounter approved the suspension of the May Day parade and the Congress of the National Association of Small Farmers (ANAP).
The ANAP event had been scheduled for May.
According to Granma newspaper, the decision complies with the measures the country has taken to prevent COVID-19, a pandemic that threatens more than 170 countries.
On March 19, the Political Bureau had decided to significantly modify the Plan of National Acts and Events that had been approved for the present year, to avoid activities that would involve large gatherings of people.
