Hanoi, Jan 31 (Prensa Latina) Nguyen Phu Trong was reelected general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee (CPVCC) on Sunday, during the penultimate session of the organization's 13th Congress.

Thus, the 76-year-old veteran revolutionary leader will lead the CPV for a third term.

The Central Committee also elected a new 18-member Political Bureau, which reelected Phu Trong secretary general shortely after.

The Secretariat, which includes five members of the Political Bureau, and the Commission for Discipline Inspection, made up of 19 members, was also elected.

The 13th Congress of the CPV has taken place in Hanoi since January 25, and 1,587 delegates, representing more than five million party members, attended the event.

The closing ceremony will be on Monday, February 1.

In the previous days, Vietnamese communists expressed the will to deepen the economic and social reforms undertaken in 1986 in order to continue improving the socialist-oriented market economy development model adopted that year.
