Panamanian filmmaker Pedro Silva called for an immediate end to the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba, a policy that hinders the development of this Caribbean country.

The director of the popular education initiative “Cine Distrito” in the locality of San Miguelito – one of the most violent in the capital – pointed out that, through this policy, successive US administrations tried unsuccessfully to put an end to the triumphant Revolution of 1959 and its work of solidarity.

He said that despite the yearly demands of the international community at the UN, the hostile policy systematically violates the fundamental rights of the population.

For whom film and photography are also a mechanism for denouncing social injustices, the recent declarations of Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez are valid when he denounced that the U.S. blockade is the most ruthless, sweeping and prolonged policy of economic war ever imposed on any country.

This October, the chief diplomat will present at the UN the report Necessity of Ending the Economic, Commercial and Financial Blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba.
