The Government of Panama donated medicines and medical supplies to Cuba on Tuesday, as a gesture of friendship with its people and in support of health services in the Caribbean island.

The agreement was signed by the Deputy Health Minister Ivette Berrios and Cuban Ambassador to Panama Víctor Cairo, in the presence of Panamanian Deputy Foreign Minister Yill Otero, among other officials and members of the Cuban Embassy here.

During a tour of the warehouse where the solidarity cargo was kept and after a brief but heartfelt ceremony, Berrios stressed that this donation is an expression of the will to share with a brother people and their healthcare system.

Otero, in turn, praised the quick reaction by both ministries to make this delivery a reality, and recalled the Cuban people for being with the Panamanians at complex times, alluding to the presence of medical professionals in 2020 and 2021, during the Covid-19 pandemic.

In words of gratitude, the Cuban ambassador noted that the history of bilateral relations has witnessed countless expressions of solidarity that enrich that friendship as Latin American and Caribbean nations.

The donation has unique symbolism amid the complex situation that Cuba is going through as a consequence of more than six decades of economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States, he added.

We appreciate this gesture of humanism, as a new example of the deep feelings of brotherhood that unite our people, he stressed.
