Palestinian militias launched rockets at Israel in response to the death of prisoner Khader Adnan, leader of Islamic Jihad, after 86 days on a hunger strike in protest against his detention without charge or trial.

The Armed forces of Israel reported that four rockets were launched from the Gaza Strip at 06:30 local time, and fell in non-residential areas.

The Israeli media agreed that in retaliation, in the next few hours the IAF will bomb the coastal enclave, where more than two million people live.

The occupants will pay the price for Adnan’s death, the Islamic Jihad warned in a statement, calling for a general strike in the occupied territories.

The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), which controls Gaza Strip, spoke in a similar way, stating that it was a “cold-blooded execution by the Israeli security services.” Hamas also warned about an escalation in violence.

The Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS) said in a statement that the 44-year-old detainee was found this morning unconscious in his cell and was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Adnan, a father of nine children, was arrested 12 times during his life and went on strike several times in protest of his imprisonments, the PPS stressed.

A doctor from the Physicians for Human Rights Israel NGO visited the inmate this week and warned that he was facing “imminent death” and had demanded his transference to a hospital.
