The singer-songwriter Silvio Rodríguez, founder of the Cuban Nueva Trova movement, will open the first of his four concerts in Chile today, highly anticipated by an audience eager to hear his songs once more.

Silvio returns to the South American country seven years after his last performance there, and tickets for the Movistar Arena, a venue that holds 17,000 people, have been sold out for several months.

The author of well-known songs such as "Ojalá," "Te doy una canción," "La Maza," "La era está pariendo un corazón," and "Santiago de Chile," will offer a repertoire ranging from his most emblematic pieces to those from his recent album "Quería saber."

A Deep Connection with Chile

Silvio has a deep connection with Chile. This was the first Latin American country the musician and composer visited in 1972 during the government of the Unidad Popular, under President Salvador Allende.

After the 1973 coup d'état and during the 17 years of dictatorship, his songs and poetry accompanied many through the most difficult times, singer and actress Carmen Prieto recently stated.

When he returned in 1990, after the restoration of democracy, he gave a concert attended by nearly 80,000 people at the National Stadium, one of the most massive cultural phenomena of that era.

He has returned to Chile several times since then, the last being in 2018 when he also performed at the Movistar Arena.

Guest Artists and Collaborative Project

For tonight's concert, the legendary Cuban artist has invited Manuel García as a guest. In the subsequent presentations, Illapu, Patricio Anabalón, and Nano Stern will join him.

"I will be accompanied by extraordinary musicians, they are friends I have been having fun with for years. That is always a guarantee," Rodríguez said.

Prior to the concert, Manuel García released "Las nubes," a previously unreleased song by the Cuban troubadour, on digital platforms. The track will be part of the collective album "Álbum Blanco para Silvio Rodríguez."
