Nicaragua elected FAO regional vice president

Caracas, March 29 (RHC) -- The Executive Secretary of ALBA-TCP, Sacha Llorenti, highlighted on Monday the election of Nicaragua as Regional Vice President for Latin America and the Caribbean of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), during its 37th Conference in Quito, Ecuador.
The official of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America – Peoples' Trade Treaty tweeted: "We extend our congratulations to Nicaragua (...) it is a recognition of the achievements in terms of food sovereignty of the Government of Reconciliation and National Unity.”
In the inaugural session this Monday, Nicaragua was elected to occupy the vice presidency for the next two years and will be represented by Minister Edward Centeno.
Attendees to the conference discussed the main results obtained by FAO in Latin America and the Caribbean during 2020-2021, and at the same time identified regional priorities for the next two years.
The Regional Conference is the highest regional governing body of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.
This 37th session will focus on moving towards more efficient, inclusive, resilient and sustainable agri-food systems for better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life.
