Million doses Russian vaccine production expected this December

Moscow, Nov 19 (Prensa Latina) The Russian biotechnology company Biocard is planning to produce one million Sputnik-V vaccine doses in December, according to health sources.

We are planning to produce one million Sputnik-V vaccines by next month, Dmitri Morozov, Biocard´s director-general, told Moscow television, who signed on September an agreement for vaccine production with the 'NF Gamalei' Research Center.

For her part, Melila Buinovic, representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Russia, confirmed that Biocard received a request for Sputnik-V certification, which was the first one to be registered (on August 11) to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.

Bunovic pointed out that Sputnik-V will go through a qualification process before entering the Emergency Use Listing.

For her part, the Head of the Russian epidemiological surveillance entity Anna Popova said that some Sputnik-V clinical trials were used in people over 65 years of age, but vaccination on minors and pregnant women will be avoided for the moment.

Popova told Russia´s epidemiological situation is very tense and gradually worsens, although she denied there was any region with an explosion of positive cases. Russia exceeded two million infected and is close to 35,000 dead.
