The president of the International Boxing Association (IBA), Umar Kremlev, from Russia, advocated gender equality on Monday as one of the pillars of the organization in the coming years.

At the opening of the meeting of the IBA Executive Committee, Kremlev thanked Cuban authorities for their hospitality in hosting this event and informed that promoting women’s boxing is among his main purposes.

The head of the Cuban Sports Institute (INDER), Osvaldo Vento, expressed pride in hosting the event, from which important projections will surely emerge, according to his words.

You shall know that Cuba welcomes IBA’s interest in diversifying its competitive calendar and placing athletes at the center of its work, a practice that fits with the essentially humanistic and inclusive nature of our sports movement, he said.

The meeting kicks off the celebrations for World Boxing Day, and in the afternoon, the Forum of the Federations of the Americas will be held, with the presence of representatives from all the countries of the continent.

The main event will start on Tuesday with the Champions Night, the first professional event in history of Cuban boxing in more than 60 years, with prizes of 120,000 and 100,000 dollars for the winner and loser, respectively, of the two 10-round main fights.

These combats will feature two-time Olympic champions Arlen López (80 kg) and Julio César La Cruz (92 kg), against José Luis Tejeda, from the Dominican Republic, and Madiyar Saydrakhimov, from Uzbekistan, respectively.

Earlier, there will be a master class with children, a public weigh-in of the Champions Night stars and a press conference by Kremlev.
