Berlin, Aug 20 (Prensa Latina) The FRG-Cuba Friendship Association sponsored an emotional tribute in Germany to the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, diplomatic sources reported Thursday.

On the occasion of the recent commemoration of the 94th anniversary of Fidel Castro's birth, the prominent German actor Rolf Becker recited his plea of self-defense before the trial for the assaults on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks (in the east of the country), which took place on July 26, 1953.

According to a diplomatic note, the audience gave a standing ovation to the actor's emotional performance, which from the stage made those present relive the burden of that moment for the young revolutionaries.

The activity took place in the vaults of the fortress of the city of Mainz, capital of the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate (West).

Becker, 85 years old and with a long and successful professional career, has repeatedly spoken out against the blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba.

He recently joined the group of cultural and scientific personalities in Germany who supported a petition against this hostile policy towards Cuba.
