Today January first marks Haiti’s Independence in 1804, 220 years ago. This day in 1804 was historical as Haiti became the first black republic in the world and the first country in the Western Hemisphere to abolish slavery.
The founders of Haiti and those who sacrificed their lives during the fight for independence are remembered in various ways including traditional Haitian dish: Soup JouMoo.
