Greetings on the 60th anniversary of Russian-Cuban Friendship Society

Vladimir Putin sent greetings to senior officials and members of the Russian-Cuban Friendship Society on the occasion of its 60th anniversary.

The message reads, in part:

“Six decades ago, the society was created with the direct involvement of the first cosmonaut Yury Gagarin and hero of the Cuban Revolution Ernesto Che Guevara. Since then, its multifaceted and productive activities have earned it high standing in both our countries.

Bringing together officials from public authorities and commercial circles, academic and cultural figures, people of art and sport, the society serves as an important and effective people’s diplomacy channel. It makes a weighty contribution to advancing constructive Russian-Cuban cooperation in the humanitarian sphere, facilitates the implementation of awareness and educational projects and the expansion of contacts between educational institutions, youth organisations and other non-governmental bodies.

I am confident that the society will continue to strengthen friendship and mutual understanding between the peoples of Russia and Cuba.”
