The specialized magazine France Football announced on Monday that this year it will not award the Golden Ball to the best player of the season, due to the crisis generated by the Covid-19.

In a statement, the prestigious publication said that under 'exceptional circumstances, exceptional provisions', considering that there are not sufficient conditions of equity.

For the first time in its history, which dates back to 1956, the Golden Ball will not have a winner, it regreted.

According to France Football, such a particular year cannot be treated as an ordinary one, and 'when in doubt, it is better to abstain than to persist'.

Last December, Argentina's Lionel Messi won his sixth Golden Ball, breaking the deadlock at the Chatelet Theatre with a draw against his media rival, Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo.
