First group of Cuban university athletes departs for Russia

The first group of the Cuban delegation that will take part in the International University Sports Festival, scheduled for August 19 to 31 in the Russian city of Yekaterinburg, departed on Monday.
The delegation includes the members of the women’s futsal team, led by Yoel Vega, director of Physical Education at the Cuban Sports Institute (INDER).
Other members of the group are technical director and Master in Science Pedro Lázaro Puente, who is a national methodologist at the Ministry of Higher Education (MES), and Herisbel Villanueva, vice dean at the University of Physical Culture and Sports Sciences (UCCFD Manuel Fajardo).
Directed by Professor Gregorio Morales, the women’s futsal team, made up of Melisa González, Sheila Suanmi Núñez, Yeranys Lee, Gianna Borrero, Nahomi Aguilar and Rachel Cepero, Braysi Cabrera, Lisset Duanis, Alina Trueba, Jennifer Cartaya and Melisa González, will make their international debut.
The men’s and women’s judo, diving and wrestling teams, will depart on August 17, followed by rhythmic gymnastics team.
The event will also include other disciplines such as badminton, 3×3 basketball, boxing, volleyball, table tennis, swimming, sambo, tennis and taekwondo.
