First group of Cuban judokas travels to Hungary for world championship

The first of the five groups of the Cuban men's and women's judo teams that will participate at the World Championships in Budapest from June 13 to 19, will leave today for Hungary.
Andres Taño Gonzalez, national commissioner, informed the Cuban News Agency that the advance team is made up of Julio Alderete and Boannys Chang, heads of the coaching staffs of the men's and women's teams, respectively.
Taño added that judo athletes Jonathan Charon (60 kg) and Orlando Polanco (66 kg), as well as doctor Edel Robaina, will also travel Tuesday.
In the next few days, the other groups will travel to the venue to complete the nine athletes -five men and four women-, Taño ratified.
Alderete will also count on Zail Ramirez (100 kg) and Jonathan Loynaz (+100 kg) and Andy Granda (+100 kg), world champion in Tashkent 2022 and fifth -discussed bronze- in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, while Chang will have Maylin del Toro (63 kg), Lianet Cardona (78 kg), Lisitrialis Gonzalez (78 kg) and Dayanara Curbelo (+78 kg).
According to the list of the top 100 of the world ranking (WR), Granda appears in seventh place, Charon in 24th place, Polanco in 55th place, Loynaz in 59th place, Maylin in 21st place and Lianet in 52nd place.
In the list also stands out the currently absent for successfully completing the recovery phase of an injury, Ivan Silva, in 21st place in his new division (100 kg), as well as the already retired from active sport after the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Idalis Ortiz, nineteenth in the over 78 kg.
