El Salvador commemorates the 44th anniversary of the Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front

Former combatants who carried arms for 12 years, commemorated the 44th anniversary of the unification of five guerrilla groups.
This Sunday, founders, leaders and militants celebrated the 44th anniversary of the creation of the Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front, also known as FMLN, which was transformed into a political party.

Former combatants who carried arms for 12 years, commemorated the 44th anniversary of the unification of five guerrilla groups, which on October 10, 1980 constituted the most prominent guerrilla organization in El Salvador.   The former commander of the FMLN, Ramón Suárez, expressed: “As a historic moment, where the synthesis of all Salvadoran revolutionaries united in a fist to strike harder and make the history of an armed conflict, of a revolutionary people's war that lasted 12 years”.

During the ceremony the memory of thousands of revolutionary combatants who lost their lives before, during and after the war (1980-1992) was honored.

The historical cadres of the ex-guerrilla did not show up, as several of them left the country when they were informed about judicial proceedings.

Sigfrido Reyes, former president of the Legislative Assembly, declared that “many FMLN leaders are victims of arbitrary judicial persecution. On the basis of proceedings without any evidence, totally illegal proceedings, they keep us out of the country. We have had to seek protection and refuge in friendly countries”.

“We are under a neo-fascist regime that persecutes social fighters, members of the Front, founders. Many of our comrades are in exile, others have open processes, others are in jail,” said Nidia Diaz, former FMLN commander.    However, this coup did not weaken the spirit of thousands of revolutionaries, who continue to support the people in their battle for their rights.

Roberto Dubón, an FMLN militant, commented on the struggle for their rights: “we are seeing that the government has forgotten the social agenda and has dedicated itself to an economic agenda, where few will benefit and many will suffer the effects of this economic issue in El Salvador”.

In front of a fervent militancy, the general secretary Manuel Flores urged the workers to protect the conquests achieved, particularly the teachers and health workers, to whom the government will suppress their pay scales.

“We condemn the null transparency in the use of public funds and repudiate the abusive salaries of officials and employees in favor of the regime. As in the past, today we raise our voice for all those whose rights have been violated,” said Flores.

The FMLN leader expressed his solidarity with the Palestinian and Lebanese communities, victims of Israeli genocidal attacks, and condemned the criminal blockade that the United States maintains against Venezuela and Cuba.
