Wearing a bulletproof vest on Sunday, Citizen Revolution presidential candidate Luisa Gonzalez cast her vote in Canuto, a town near Chone city, in the coastal province of Manabi.

"I have every faith and hope that Ecuador is going to take a turn toward dignity," the 45-year-old lawyer said as she remained surrounded by a strong security contingent.

"For justice, dignity, and a homeland with rights," Gonzalez said as she cast her vote and asked Ecuadorians to vote with memory.

In this way, the candidate made reference to the last years in which Ecuador has lived immersed in a violence fueled by drug trafficking gangs and facilitated by the incompetence of the governments of Lenin Moreno (2017-2021) and Guillermo Lasso (2021-2023).

The text reads, "Voting intention polls indicate a technical tie between the leftist Luisa Gonzalez and the rightist Daniel Noboa. Expert considers that the polarization of the campaign makes the result unpredictable."

Gonzalez, who is part of the progressive political movement led by former president Rafael Correa (2007-2017), will travel to the province of Guayas to accompany the Guayaquil Mayor Aquiles Alvarez in the vote.

She will then travel to Quito, where Gonzalez will accompany the Quito Mayor Pabel Muñoz and the Pichincha Prefect Paola Pabon, who are also active in the Citizen Revolution, to vote.

In this runoff, Gonzalez faces Daniel Noboa, a right-wing politician and businessman. The winner of the elections will hold the presidency of Ecuador for about 15 months until completing the period of Guillermo Lasso, who called early elections to avoid impeachment for embezzlement.
