The first Regional Conference on South-South Cooperation will be held at the headquarters of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), located in the capital of Chile.

During two days, representatives of 33 countries, international organizations, UN agencies, multilateral credit institutions and development banks, will discuss the advances and challenges for the exchange of resources, knowledge and technologies.

The conference will be held through working groups that will debate issues such as the challenges of international cooperation, evaluation of South-South and triangular cooperation; opportunities for public-private partnerships and risk and disaster management.

There will also be a team in charge to discuss the regional exchange towards the Third Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and the European Union.

CELAC noted that the event is taking place in a context marked by several crises, including the Covid-19 pandemic, economic tensions between the main world powers and global financial disturbances. In addition, the conflict in Eastern Europe is causing fuel prices and access to agricultural inputs, including fertilizers, to become more expensive and an increase in the price of food.

Latin America and the Caribbean are facing a sharp rise in inflation and the persistence of strong migratory flows, especially to the north of the continent.

This situation, according to the Commission, forces governments and public and private sectors to realign their policies in order to achieve the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
