Havana, April 26 (RHC)-- Cuban  President, Miguel Díaz-Canel received on Tuesday at the Palace of the Revolution the Honorable Roosevelt Skerrit, prime minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, who will conclude his official visit to the island on Wednesday.

At the end of the official talks, the Cuban dignitary presented the José Martí Order to Mr. Skerritt, who is also the Minister of  Finance, Resilience, Economic Affairs, Investment, Planning, Sustainable Development, Telecommunications, and Broadcasting.

"As always, you are welcome as a brother to Cuba," Díaz-Canel told the distinguished visitor.

"Several meetings in which we have been together come to my memory, and I cannot fail to recall your vigorous defense of Cuba," he noted.

He thanked Dominica for its permanent support to the struggle against Cuba's economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the U.S. government.

Referring to the complex context in which this meeting is taking place, both for the world and the Latin American and Caribbean area, the Cuban leader considered that the "possibility of resuming face-to-face visits and not virtual ones means that our countries are overcoming the pandemic."

He added that "for many reasons, we are pleased that he is here" and ratified the willingness to continue expanding political, economic-commercial, and cooperation relations between the two nations.

The Dominican Prime Minister expressed his pleasure "to be in Cuba, to be here, in this great country" and expressed his gratitude for the collaboration provided in various spheres and for the outstanding work carried out in his country by the Cuban Medical Brigade.

The two sides also discussed other regional and international issues and confirmed their mutual willingness to maintain a high level of political dialogue and strengthen the ties of friendship and cooperation between their peoples and governments.

At the end of the official talks, the President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel, presented the Honorable Roosevelt Skerrit with the José Martí Order, the highest decoration granted by the Cuban State.
