Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez warned today about the real and serious problem posed by fentanyl consumption in the United States.

"Its designation as a weapon of mass destruction is another effort by the United States government to build mendacious pretexts to unleash acts of war against sovereign states in Latin America and the Caribbean, overthrow legitimate governments, and usurp the natural resources of other peoples," he expressed in a post on the social network X.

He similarly denounced that the U.S. government seeks to ignore the multifactorial origin of its consumption and the havoc it causes, as well as to conceal the bad practices of pharmaceutical corporations.

"The vast narcotics market in the United States, the indiscriminate prescription of opioids, amphetamines, and oxycodone; the limited and costly access to health institutions, and vulnerabilities are some of the realities faced by citizens of that nation," he added.
