Havana, Feb 28 (RHC) The first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel mourned Tuesday the death of prominent journalist and writer Francisca Armas Fonseca (Paquita).

From his Twitter profile, the dignitary joined the condolences for such a sensitive loss.

He described Paquita as "a prestigious and tireless journalist and critic to whom we also owe valuable texts of different profiles".

Armas Fonseca was born in 1950 in the eastern province of Holguin, and graduated in journalism from the University of Oriente, in 1977.

During her career, she specialized in cultural journalism, mainly in cinema, radio, and television.

She was a member of the executive of the Film, Radio, and Television Association of UNEAC.

 

She was editor-in-chief of the magazine 'Somos Jóvenes and 'El Caimán Barbudo', the latter of which she directed from 1984 to 1988.

Her texts on Marxism appear in El Caimán Barbudo, La Jiribilla, Juventud Rebelde, Bohemia, Cubadebate, the Cuban Television portal, and in publications in Spain, Mexico, and Ecuador.

She was awarded the Distinction for National Culture, the Caracol Awards, and the 26th of July, granted by UPEC.
