Cuba’s Acosta Danza premieres at Murcia festival

Madrid Aug 4 (Prensa Latina) The 52nd edition of the 'San Javier Festival Theater, Music and Dance' in Murcia, southern Spain, will start Friday, with the Cuban contemporary dance company Acosta Danza.

An announcement by organizers confirmed today the prestigious event that will present a diverse program until August 25 in the Auditorium of the Almanza Park in San Javier, a small town in the northern part of Mar Menor.

Cuban dancer Carlos Acosta, well known in Spain, especially since the film Yuli, by Iciar Bollaín, presents “Tocororo”, an autobiographical show that marked the beginning of his career as a choreographer.

With a very successful tour in 2021, which included the prestigious Royal Theater of Madrid, Acosta updates the ballet premiered in 2003 at the Gran Teatro de la Habana Alicia Alonso, that takes the name of the national bird of Cuba.

According to the program of the San Javier festival, Tocororo, which cultivated notable success in London some time ago, makes a simile between the bird that does not survive in captivity which is also the name of the young protagonist of the ballet, a humble young man who arrives in the city in search of new horizons facing multiple and varied obstacles.
