Cuban workers' leader: Cuba works for its present and future

Cuba lives and works for its present and future, external pressures will not bend us, assured this Sunday in Havana Ulises Guilarte de Nacimiento, secretary general of the Cuban Workers Federation(CTC).
On International Workers' Day, he ratified that the country will not stop the economic and social transformations in a context of growing hostility and the intensified economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States, the main obstacle to the development programs.
He said, at the Revolution Square, that the celebration of this May Day, again in person after two years of occupying digital networks, is being held in a country where creative resistance prevails and which is advancing in the construction of a socialist, sovereign, prosperous and sustainable nation.
He recalled the current complex context, since to Washington's policy is added the crisis generated by the pandemic at world level, which influences the shortage of goods in retail trade and the increase of inflation, generating speculative prices, with the consequent affectation to the purchasing power of the salary and pensions, he underlined.
Imperialism uses this situation, with double standards and perverse media campaigns, to position from the social networks an opinion matrix that seeks to fracture the unity of the people and their confidence in the Revolution, said the union leader.
He recognized the extraordinary effort of scientists and health personnel who, in years of tense confrontation with the pandemic, assisted the sick and developed five anti-COVID-19 vaccine candidates, three of them turned into vaccines.
Guilarte de Nacimiento thanked the friends of Cuba, representatives of trade union organizations and movements of the world for their presence in the May Day parade, a sign that the largest of the Antilles is not alone.
She highlighted the transformations being carried out in the nation, such as the implementation of policies for the advancement of economic actors, the consultation process of the Family Code project and the actions to consolidate the Program for the Advancement of Women.
Guilarte de Nacimiento recalled Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, who guided and accompanied the people in countless historic events at the Plaza de la Revolución.
This Sunday, Army General Raúl Castro, leader of the Revolution, and Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee and President of the Republic, accompanied by other leaders of the Party, government and State, will lead the ceremony for International Workers' Day.
