Cuban women's volleyball team to attend Pan American Cup in Mexico

The Cuban women's volleyball team will head to Mexico today to participate at the 21st North, Central American and Caribbean (Norceca) Pan American Cup, to be held in Guanajuato, from the 18th to the 25th of next month.

According to the website www.norceca.net, Cubans are in Group B along with Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, United States, Argentina and Chile, while in Group A are Canada, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Colombia, Peru and Suriname.

The schedule announced by the organizers indicates that Cuba will face the Puerto Ricans on Sunday, followed by Costa Rica (Monday), the United States (Tuesday), Argentina (Wednesday) and Chile (Thursday), at the end of the preliminary phase.

After completing the elimination round on a round-robin basis, the top teams in each bracket will advance to the semifinal round.

The second and third place finishers will advance to the quarterfinals, the fourth and fifth will advance to a qualifying round for positions seven through 10, while the last place finishers will compete for positions 11 and 12.

It details that the preliminary round will be from August 18 to 22 with six daily matches, the quarterfinals, the classification round for positions seven to 10 and the final classification for positions 11 and 12, on August 23.

The semifinals, the qualifying round for positions five through eight and the final classification for positions nine and 10 will be played on August 24.

The gold and bronze medal matches will take place on August 25, as well as the final classification for positions five and six, and seven and eight.
