Cuban university gets ready to celebrate its 45th anniversary

The University of Medical Sciences of Camagüey, one of the first institutions of its kind founded by the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, is getting ready to celebrate its 45th anniversary.
 
 
With a broad program of events that extends from November 2024 to December 2025, the University pays tribute to its tradition of excellence since June 4, 1980.

Rector Tamara Chao noted in a press conference that the main events will take place on June 2, 3 and 4, when professors will be decorated, books on the history of the university by Doctor Alberto Hernández will be launched, and the institution’s movie theater will be reopened in the presence of authorities from the Ministry of Public Health.

Founded in 1980, the University of Medical Sciences of Camagüey has graduated more than 30,000 health professionals, including 3,000 foreign students from 30 countries.

Currently, the center has an enrollment of 1,000 undergraduate students and 4,000 graduate students, distributed in 48 careers and three faculties: Medical Sciences, Technological Faculty and Stomatology, which incorporates technical education. The institution has a branch in the city of Nuevitas.

In 2022, the University received the Carlos J. Finlay Order, as an acknowledgement of its contribution to medical education and public health in Cuba.
