The Ozone Technical Office (OTOZ by its Spanish acronym) called in Havana for the 5th edition of its virtual contest, which is one of its actions to celebrate the World Day for the Protection of the Ozone Layer on September 16.

Children and adolescents can participate in the competition in the modalities of drawing, poetry, short stories, audiovisuals, comics or others derived from their creativity and the deadline for entries is Friday, August 30.

The prizes will be awarded at the national event for the environmental anniversary, celebrated every September 16 since the UN selected that day in 1994 as the date on which the Montreal Protocol on the elimination of Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) was signed.

Cuba is a signatory to the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer (1985) and the Montreal Protocol (1987), related to the control and gradual elimination of the production and consumption of environmentally harmful industrial chemicals.

OTOZ is also promoting a public outreach and awareness campaign for the anniversary and the 29th anniversary of its creation, currently attached to the Center for Information Management and Energy Development of the Agency for Nuclear Energy and Advanced Technologies, attached to the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment.
