Provincial PAMI Head Frank Garcia highlighted the strengthening of prenatal care, praising the municipalities of Trinidad and Taguasco, which up to date have reported zero deaths among children under one year of age.
The second-degree specialist in Gynecology also praised the work of maternal homes and other healthcare institutions in order to prevent contagions of pregnant women with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, which causes Covid-19.
Garcia referred to the high survival rate of seriously-ill children under one year of age and newborns, an indicator that in his opinion corresponds to first world countries.
According to statistics, Sancti Spiritus also stood out in 2019, when it reported 3.6 deaths per every 1,000 live births, and in the last five years, the province has kept an infant mortality rate below four.
During the past year, over 4,160 births occurred in the territory, while in 2017 only two deaths were reported per every 1,000 live births, considered the best rate in the province's history.
