President Miguel Díaz-Canel congratulated Cuba's baseball 5 team, after winning the title at the II World Baseball 5 Championship, held in Hong Kong, China.

Through his profile on X, the president highlighted that this is the second time that the Caribbean island has been crowned world champion of the discipline.

The team, undefeated, reached the final, and in the decisive game they beat Japan. “Congratulations, champions. Thank you for passionately defending a sport born in the heart of the Homeland: our neighborhoods”, he said.

The Cuban team today defeated Japan in two sets (16-1, 7-5) in the final of the II World Baseball 5 Championship to retain the crown reached two years ago in Mexico.

This represented the ninth win without setbacks for the cast, winning in addition to 18 sets with only one lost to the Japanese team in the opening phase of the tournament.

Cuba thus consolidated itself at the top of baseball 5, a discipline that today enjoys international growth thanks in large part to the nation’s efforts to promote the practice of the discipline.

The third place in the World Cup went to the French national team, beating their Venezuelan counterpart 3-1, 7-2.
