Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel on Tuesday congratulated Shigeru Ishiba over his election as Prime Minister of Japan.

On his X account, the Cuban leader wished Ishiba success in his administration, and reiterated the will to continue to expanding friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

The Japanese Parliament appointed the new leader of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), 67-year-old Shigeru Ishiba, Prime Minister of that Asian country on Tuesday.

With an extensive political career, Ishiba succeeds Fumio Kishida, who had said on August 14 that he would leave his high position, due to the need for change in the LDP, after being involved in political-financial scandals.
