Cuban Leaders Highlight Lasting Relevance of Fidel Castro

The President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, and other high-ranking officials today emphasized the enduring relevance of the thinking of the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro, and the vigor of his example.

"#FidelViveEntreNosotros. Whoever doubts it should read, watch, listen to how the Commander in Chief of the #CubanRevolution continues to speak to us, from the immortality of his ideas and the strength of his legacy, which continues to challenge us every day," the Cuban president wrote on the social network X.

Prime Minister Manuel Marrero also highlighted that, nine years after his physical passing, the example of the revolutionary leader "continues to be a compass in the face of every challenge."

"The permanent teaching of #Fidel, as Raúl told us, is that yes, it is possible, that man is capable of overcoming the harshest conditions if his will to win does not falter," he pointed out.

For his part, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez, recalling the date, stated that Fidel Castro's legacy of "dignity, sovereignty, anti-imperialism, and social justice for Cuba and the peoples of the world remains alive in the current generations of revolutionaries."

A Historical Figure

Fidel Castro (Birán, Holguín, August 13, 1926 – Havana, Cuba, November 25, 2016) was the architect of the revolutionary triumph of January 1, 1959, against the dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista (1952-1959).

For more than five decades, he led the country's economic and social transformations, the development of education, health, sports, culture, and science, as well as confronting external aggressions and conducting an active foreign policy based on principles.

Cuba is paying tribute to his memory in a commemorative period that will extend until August 13, 2026, the date of the centenary of his birth.
