Cuban boxers Arlen and Julio Cesar secure bronze at 2023 Pan American Games

Cubans Arlen Lopez and Julio Cesar La Cruz secured bronze medals today in the boxing tournament of the 19th Pan American Games of Santiago de Chile 2023, by winning their respective bouts in the quarterfinals.

Hosted at the Olympic Training Center, Arlen, 80 kilograms (kg), secured his pass to the semifinal with a second round RSC win over Colombian Jhojan Caicedo.

Julio Cesar (92 kg), captain of the team, also showed superiority, but in all three rounds, defeating local Andrews Nicolas Salgado 5-0 (30-26, 30-27, 30-27, 30-27, 30-27 and 30-27).

This afternoon, Cuban Legnis Cala (57 kg) -still the last active member of the women's national team of Cuba-, in the round of 16, and Saidel Horta (57 kg), in the quarterfinals, will also compete in the ring.

Legnis and Horta will have as rivals the Mexican Jeniffer Yazmin and the Colombian Yamil Leandro Gonzalez, in that order.
