Cuba values role of sports in inclusive development

Cuba on Wednesday ratified in the voice of its highest sports authority, Osvaldo Vento, the commitment to promoting sports as an instrument of inclusion and a boost to sustainable development.

The president of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER) is heading the Cuban delegation at the high-level forum “Changing the Game,” which was held on Wednesday at the headquarters of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

Vento told Prensa Latina that the healthy and inclusive practice of sports has been one of the principles defended by the Cuban Revolution since its beginnings, more than six decades ago.

In that regard, he praised the participation of women and disabled people, in line with the right to physical education, sports and recreation enshrined in the Cuban Constitution.

Referring to the ministerial event and its call to recognize the transforming and progressive role of sports, the INDER president noted that Cuba considered it a violation of his country has suffered more than 60 years of an economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States.
