Cuba reports one death from Covid-19 and 15 new cases

Havana, Aug 26 (Prensa Latina) With the death of a patient due to Covid-19, Cuba reached the total number of 92 deaths from the virus and 15 people confirmed this Wednesday with the pandemic.

The death was of an 80-year-old Cuban citizen, resident in Havana and who also had a personal pathological history such as high blood pressure and senile dementia.

The head of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Public Health of Cuba (Minsap), Francisco Durán, reported at a press conference that this Tuesday 3, 56 samples were processed in all the island's laboratories, for a total of 372,945 tests since the pandemic began.

To date, Cuba has accumulated 3,759 cases diagnosed with the Sars-Cov-2 virus since the report of the first one on March 11.

Of the 15 files reported, 14 are Cubans and one foreigner residing in the largest of the Antilles; of them, 11 were asymptomatic at the time of applying the PCR, Duran highlighted.

In this regard, the epidemiologist insisted on the need to maintain hygienic-sanitary measures, since the total number of asymptomatic patients in the country currently represents 57.4 percent of those confirmed to date, with 2,161 patients in this situation.

Until this August 25, 1,010 patients have been admitted to Cuban hospitals for clinical epidemiological surveillance, of them, 25 under surveillance, 479 suspects and 506 confirmed.

The Minsap report highlights the 57 medical discharges that occurred this Tuesday and thus, the country reaches the figure of 3,159 recovered patients, which represents 84.0 percent of those confirmed.

In addition, it reports on the situation of three people in critical condition and another 13 serious.

Dr. Durán referred to the detection of a new case of a person less than 20 years of age, which has reached 391 pediatric patients diagnosed with the pandemic.

The 15 cases diagnosed at the end of Tuesday are distributed among the provinces of Havana, Artemisa and Villa Clara. The Cuban capital reported 11 infected.

Regarding this situation, the epidemiologist said that the greatest complexity with the pandemic is in the western region, therefore, the announcement of stronger restrictive measures is expected in the coming days.

In the world, 185 countries report cases of Covid-19, and thus the number rises to 23 million 673 thousand 902 confirmed and 813 thousand 944 deaths.

On the other hand, the region of the Americas reported 12 million 652 thousand 851 people with the new coronavirus, 53.45 of the total cases reported in the world, with 447 thousand 538.
