Health authorities reported 199 new Covid-19 cases on Saturday, totaling 12,424 patients with the disease in Cuba.

The Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) informed in its daily report that an 84-year-old citizen from central Villa Clara province died on Saturday. He had a history of high blood pressure and chronic kidney disease.

The MINSAP also reported that 3,184 patients with the virus are in hospitals for clinical epidemiological surveillance, 629 are suspected cases, 969 are under surveillance and 1,586 are active patients, 1,563 of them are clinically stable.

Cuban laboratories made 11,254 PCR tests in real time to detect the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, totaling 1,513,264 samples collected since March, the MINSAP noted.

It added that 89 of the new 199 cases are contacts of confirmed cases, 94 were infected abroad and in 16 cases, the source of contagion has not been established, the report indicated.

About 150 patients (75.4%) of the new cases were asymptomatic, totaling 8,231 and accounting for 66.3% of confirmed cases to date.

All provinces reported autochthonous cases and the territories with the highest infections are Havana with 55 cases and eastern Santiago de Cuba and Guantanamo provinces, with 23 and 20 patients, respectively.

Over the last few hours, 182 patients were discharged from hospitals, so 10,676 people have recovered from the disease.

Of 23 people sick with Covid-19, nine are in a critical condition and 14 are seriously ill at intensive care units nationwide.
