Cuba regrets deaths due to heavy rains in Sudan

Havana, Aug 24 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez expressed his condolences for the deaths of people in Sudan as a result of heavy rains and floods affecting that country in northeastern Africa.
On his Twitter profile, the top representative of the island’s diplomacy extended his condolences to the relatives of the dead and injured.
More than 80 deaths and 140,000 people affected so far by the heavy rains that have been lashing that nation for several weeks, while 36 people were treated in hospitals for injuries of varying prognosis.
The strength and abundance of the rainfall contrasts with the persistent drought in South Sudan and states of the Horn of Africa, which has triggered an exodus of people leaving their places of residence in search of food and shelter.
This situation is compounded by the deep economic crisis in the country, which is immersed in political violence.
