Cuba receives shipment of medical supplies from the UN

A shipment of essential medical supplies arrived at Jose Marti International Airport in Havana, for supporting more than 90,000 people affected by Hurricane Melissa.

The shipment was received by the Deputy Representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Cuba, Sunny Guidotti, and the UN Resident Coordinator in the country, Francisco Pichón.

“These are 69 medical kits containing medications such as antibiotics and antihypertensives, as well as equipment such as stethoscopes, scales, and sphygmomanometers, along with disposable materials such as syringes, needles, gloves, and cannulas,” ACN reported.

The shipment also included 8,220 mosquito nets and oral rehydration salts, intended to bolster healthcare in the areas most affected by the storm. A

YAccording to the organization’s Facebook post, Cuba’s Ministry of Public Health will coordinate the transport and distribution of supplies to the eastern provinces, prioritizing institutions with the greatest need.

She also added that this support reaffirms UNICEF’s commitment to immediate response and early recovery, helping every girl, boy and adolescent grow up healthy and protected, even in emergency contexts.
