Repairs on the Catamaran Río Las Casas in Final Stage

The repair of the catamaran Río Las Casas is nearing its conclusion, which will provide travelers to and from the Special Municipality of Isla de la Juventud with this valuable means of transport.

Eduardo Rivas López, director of the state-owned company Viamar, stated that the final repairs being carried out on the Río Las Casas catamaran do not require a special dry dock; they are being performed in Nueva Gerona, at the catamaran wharf.

Regarding the vessel's return to service, the director of Viamar specified that it will happen immediately, as soon as the final tests are completed. These include "engine start-up... dock and sea trials. These are what determine if the ship is ready."

Rivas López added, "We will have two vessels transporting passengers and cargo." With the return of the Río Las Casas, the number of trips on the Gerona-Batabanó route and to the destination of Cayo Largo del Sur will be increased.
