Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero on Friday reaffirmed his country's interest in continuing to expand and diversify cooperation with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
Speaking virtually at the meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council, the head of Government expressed Cuba’s willingness to work for the establishment of a new international economic and financial architecture, more fair and inclusive.
In this regard, he stressed that Cuba “has strengthened its relationship with the Union and, more recently, with the BRICS, whose Summit in Kazan last October we attended represented by our foreign minister, Bruno Rodríguez.”
Marrero pointed out that the 3rd Eurasian Economic Forum confirmed the multiple opportunities that exist to strengthen business relations between Cuban companies and those from the Union.
He recalled that among the main results of the event was the agreement to foster the exchange of projects in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors, food production and industry in general.
“The 3rd Eurasian Economic Forum, without a doubt, was the platform to review the work done, as well as to assess the Union’s prospects and priorities of development,” he said.
The prime minister stressed that the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Cuban Chamber of Commerce and the Business Council of the Union should become an instrument of mutual benefit and contribute to a better understanding of the respective business sectors.
In his speech, he expressed gratitude for the inclusion of the University of Havana, as an observer, in the Scientific and Educational Consortium of the Eurasian Network of higher education institutions.
Marrero stressed that the event is an honor and a high responsibility, which reaffirms the priority nature of multilateral cooperation with Cuba and the intention to deepen interaction in all areas of mutual interest.
Regarding the 40th edition of the Havana International Fair, Marrero pointed out that although the event ended earlier than expected due to Hurricane Rafael, it was possible to present an update of the portfolio of business opportunities in our country, which consists of 607 investment projects.
The head of Government also referred to the importance that Cuba grants to the formation of the Joint Collaboration Plan for the 2025-2030 period.
“We ratify our will and interest in its signing in the first quarter of 2025, in the context of the 4th Session of the Cuba-EAEU Joint Commission, in Moscow,” he added.
On behalf of the Cuban people and Government, the prime minister thanked all the States that make up the Union for their unwavering support for the international demand to end the blockade imposed by the United States and for the exclusion of the island from the unilateral list of countries sponsoring terrorism.
