Cuba was left out of the Super Round and will be in the so-called consolation phase, after the closing of Group B in the Under 23 Baseball World Cup in Taipei, China 2022.

Despite its latest success against Australia (3-1), manager Alain Alvarez’s troop had to wait for the final results of the group and the victories of the Netherlands over Puerto Rico (4-1) and South Korea against Mexico (1-0) left an unusual five-way tie at 2-3.

The South Koreans (5-0) advanced undefeated to the next round, while the Mexicans and Australians were favored by the tie with Puerto Rico, Cuba and the Netherlands, after the TQB (Team Quality Balance) formula that was used to break the tie.

Thus, Korea, Mexico and Australia, for section B, and Taipei, Japan and Colombia, in group A, are still alive in the fight for the medals of the universal competition of the category, which will culminate on the 23rd of this month.

Meanwhile, Cuba, the Netherlands and Puerto Rico, in addition to Venezuela, Germany and South Africa will compete for places 6 to 12 in the city of Taichung, according to the official website of the World Baseball and Softball Confederation.
