especiales

In these hard moments for the Namibian people, we are here to ratify, personally, the accompaniment and the most heartfelt condolences, on behalf of the Party, the State, the Government and the Cuban people, for the physical departure of Dr. Sam Nujoma.
This was expressed by the member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Party and president of the National Assembly of People's Power and the Council of State of Cuba, Esteban Lazo Hernández, in a fraternal meeting with his Namibian counterpart, Peter Katjavivi, after his arrival in the African country to participate in the state funeral of the Founding Father of the Nation and first President of the sister Republic of Namibia.
The head of the Cuban Parliament expressed that Sam Nujoma showed throughout his life a special affection for Cuba, and supported the Revolution in each of its struggles; he acknowledged the contribution of our country to the efforts for the liberation of Africa and the end of apartheid, and had a close friendship with Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz and Army General Raul Castro Ruz. Lazo recalled that the Namibian leader, in 1991, was awarded the José Martí Order, the highest recognition granted by the Cuban State.
For his part, the head of the Namibian National Assembly thanked the participation of a high-level Cuban delegation, headed by Esteban Lazo, in the State funeral, and ratified the will to continue strengthening bilateral relations, based on the solid legacy of friendship between the historic leaders of both countries.
Both officials came to pay posthumous tribute to Sam Nujoma, before his coffin, located in the Parliament Gardens, as part of his procession for the popular tribute in the city of Windhoek.
After the tribute, Lazo Hernandez spoke with Lucas Sinimbo Muha, president of the National Council of the Republic of Namibia. In addition, he held a profitable meeting with the collaborators of the Cuban State Mission in Windhoek, in which they shared the results achieved, projections for the stage, and other aspects of the national current affairs.
