Madrid, Dec 28 (Prensa Latina) The memory of Chilean singer-songwriter Victor Jara on the 50th anniversary of his assassination and Cuba as guest country will be the highlights of the 28th BarnaSants Festival, Spain.

A unique event in several cities of Catalonia, which will be held from January to May 2023 with more than 90 concerts and whose graphic poster pays tribute to Jara, riddled with bullets by the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet on September 16, 1973, after being brutally tortured.

As for Cuba, the organizers reported on Wednesday that this event, named after its first venue, Cocheras de Sants, in the neighborhood of Sants, Catalonia, will hold 10 recitals in memory of Vicente Feliu and Pablo Milanes, who died in 2021 and 2022, respectively.

Irina Gonzalez, Yadira Ferrer, Heidi Igualada, Marta Campos, Inti Santana, Leonardo Garcia and Yaima Orozco will play songs written by Feliu and Milanes, two of the greatest exponents of the Cuban Nueva Trova.

Also, Karel Garcia, considered one of the best Cuban singer songwriters of the moment, will present his latest work ‘A flor de calle’, and other local figures such as Laura Simó and pianist Elisabet Raspall will pay tribute to musician Francesc Burrull.

In addition, musicians from Argentina, France and Italy will perform at the BarnaSants festival, along with dozens of Spanish performers.

BarnaSants 2023 will pay tribute to the major festival orchestras of the Transition (between the dictatorship and Spanish democracy). It will begin with group music at the Teatre Joventut in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat on January 27, to vindicate the importance that bands such as Plateria or La Salseta del Poble Sec had in spaces of celebration and freedom
