Cuba Denounces U.S. Pressure Ahead of Vote Against Blockade

The Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez, denounced today the pressures exerted by the United States ahead of the UN vote on the resolution demanding the lifting of the blockade.
“We have reliable information about the intimidating and deceptive pressures that the United States government is exerting on several countries, especially in Latin America and Europe,” he informed at a press conference in the capital.
The Foreign Minister warned that Washington is seeking to compel and force these nations to modify the traditional and historical position they have maintained in support against the blockade.
He indicated that the U.S. government is using this policy of extreme pressure in an effort to distort Cuba's image, create elements of pressure against third countries regarding their position against the blockade, as well as to create a climate of disinformation, confusion, and hopelessness.
Likewise, he added, they intend to generate a feeling of insecurity and fear among the United Nations member states.
Rodríguez described the actions of the northern nation as a “slanderous, disrespectful, mendacious, and disinformation campaign.”
The top representative of Cuban diplomacy presented at the conference evidence of the discredit campaign promoted by the United States, under the pretext that the island is a threat to Washington, he affirmed.
In 2024, the international community supported the resolution at the UN General Assembly, with 187 votes, on the necessity of ending the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed on Cuba by the United States government, with only two votes against (the United States and Israel), and one abstention (the Republic of Moldova).
On October 28 and 29, for the thirty-third time, the multilateral body will again debate and pronounce itself on the economic, commercial, and financial siege imposed on the Caribbean nation for more than six decades.
