Havana, Aug 31 (Prensa Latina) The Cuban radio station Radio Taíno and the British Council, a public cultural institute of the United Kingdom, today promoted the sixth call for the MusicDos National Contest for DJs, devised by both institutions in 2016.

Alberto Cordoví, director of the Selector Radio program in Cuba “Tonight” and of the contest, alluded to the signing in 2015 of a collaboration agreement between that British entity for the dissemination of knowledge and oriented towards foreign relations and the station of the Caribbean country.

This agreement includes the transmission of the program in English from the Taíno frequency, and initiatives such as MusicDos, which combines the sounds of both territories, promotes and internationalizes the compositions of these professionals and includes the promotion of workshops, conferences and exchanges.

In an interview granted to that media outlet, Cordoví valued the work of Cuban electronic music, under the influence of the National Electroacoustic Music Laboratory, the Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS) and other similar spaces, aimed at disseminating this art.

According to the director, the competition also guarantees a permanent representation of the musicians on a variety of platforms and encourages creativity based on the mixture of emerging styles from the United Kingdom and the traditional rhythms of the island.

During its 2020 edition, the event took place virtually, due to the measures associated with the Covid-19 pandemic, and this time the works, which can be sent until October 12, respond to genres such as: dubstep, folk, soul and hip-hop.
