Beijing, Jul 27 (Prensa Latina) Representatives of China and Cuba today signed a memorandum of understanding that seeks to promote cooperation in the development of tourism in both directions.
The text was signed by Havana’s ambassador here, Carlos Miguel Pereira, and Chen Xiaobing, co-founder and executive director of the Caissa Tourism Group, considered one of the giants in the travel industry.
According to the diplomat, with the agreement the parties will work on “the promotion, organization and management of travelers to the island and to China under different modalities”.
The initiatives will also be in line with the interests identified in the areas of cultural, health, historical-heritage and multi-destination tourism in the Caribbean region.
Cuba has the goal of doubling in the short term the number of Chinese travelers, thus it is increasing efforts to promote its attractions and products in nature, culture, health and nautical tourism, among other options.
In November 2019, it signed a memorandum with the Chinese agency Ctrip -the second largest online travel agency in the world- to position its main destinations on that platform, in addition to negotiating with Alipay facilities in digital payments for Chinese citizens.
