Havana, April 27 (RHC)-- The Prime Minister of Belize, John Antonio Briceño, arrived Wednesday in Cuba to begin an official visit, during which he will hold meetings with authorities.
Upon his arrival at the capital's José Martí International Airport, the head of Finance, Economic Development, and Investment of the Caribbean country was received by Deputy Foreign Minister Anayansi Rodríguez.
In statements to the press, the head of government expressed his satisfaction at returning to Cuba, a country he described as an important ally of Belize.
He also affirmed that this visit would allow the strengthening of bilateral ties and reaching agreements in health and other areas and discussing important issues of the region.
Havana and Belmopan have maintained close cooperation ties since their diplomatic relations on July 15, 1995, but since 1990 more than 1,000 Cuban specialists in different areas have provided services in that nation.
Currently, 122 health and sports professionals work there, and 54 scholarship holders from Belize are studying on the largest Antillean island.
The two countries have also carried out cultural, environmental preservation, the sugar industry, fishing, construction, and tourism projects.
