Bridgetown, May 23 (Prensa Latina) The Health ministries of Barbados and Cuba signed a new Medical Cooperation Agreement here, a diplomatic source announced on Monday.

The agreement establishes the permanent presence of a Cuban brigade, made up of medical specialists in different fields, nursers and laboratory personnel, who will be stationed in healthcare centers throughout Barbados.

Barbadian authorities expressed interest in developing work links in the sector as a result of the work done in the country by the Henry Reeve International Contingent of Doctors Specialized in Situations of Disasters and Serious Epidemics in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

Since their arrival in Barbados in 2020, all 126 specialists from the detachment played a decisive role in the control of the disease in the Alpha and Delta variants, hence they were acknowledged with the Humanitarian Award granted on the occasion of Heroes’ Day in 2022.

The Bilateral Cooperation Agreement was signed by the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Health and Welfare of Barbados, Janet Phillips; and Cuban Ambassador Sergio Jorge Pastrana.
