Plastic artists gathered yesterday outside the Ministry of Culture, in Havana, to share through their works, the legacy of the Cuban Apostle José Martí, on the day that commemorates a new anniversary of the beginning of the War for Independence.

Among the artists who gathered there appeared the renowned Eduardo Roca Salazar (Choco), Nelson Domínguez, and José Antonio Rodríguez (Fuster).

Likewise, personalities and authorities of cultural institutions attended, among them, the Minister of Culture, Alpidio Alonso; the president of the Cuban Association of Writers and Artists (UNEAC), Luis Morlote; the President of Casa de las Américas, Abel Prieto, and Miguel Barnet, Honorary President of UNEAC.

According to Nelson Domínguez, an artist who more than once has reflected the Apostle in his works, “Martí is the greatest and most complete man that America has given in every way. He died defending the Homeland, life with death. He was the first man of Homeland or Death in this country”, he affirmed.

At the gathering, which helped to stir the memory and historical recollections, it was paid homage to the 126 years when reinitiated the war for independence, with the guidance of Martí.

Musicians and poets also joined the meeting, and important songs like the Chan Chan, by Compay Segundo, and El necio, by Silvio Rodríguez, with Digna Guerra who got to direct the National Choir of Cuba, which started the event singing the National Anthem.

Painter Flora Fong expressed that it’s necessary to count on Cuban culture and artists. “For us it’s an opportunity to express ourselves in this space. We could not miss it, it’s really our duty to be here, "she added.
