Havana, Dec 10 (Prensa Latina) The beginning of the Arimao Project, which will have an undersea telecommunication cable, is another step in Cuba's strategy to computerize society.
Deputy Prime Minister Jorge Luis Perdomo explained that the implementation of this plan is an example of the Government’s will to continue expanding Cuba’s international communications.
He added that the benefits of this project include the diversification of the country’s international connectivity and stressed that the materialization of the Arimao Project will complement what is achieved through a single route of this type in the country: the ALBA-1 system, resulting from the brotherhood between Cuban and Venezuela.
Minister of Communications Mayra Arevich, quoted by Granma daily, said that the Arimao undersea cable is a dream come true. It fulfills the National Economic and Social Development Plan until 2030 and will provide more and better connectivity to Cubans.
The technical installation work of the Arimao cable, which will connect the islands of Cuba and Martinica, officially started in Cienfuegos on Thursday, after Empresa de Telecomunicaciones de Cuba S.A. (ETECSA) and the French company Orange S.A signed the agreement.
