The response of countries, particularly from the Caribbean, to participate in the 5th ALBA Games athletics, which conclude on Saturday, has guaranteed the success of the competition, according to Alberto Phyllis, venezuela´s atheltics operational director.
Eight nations are presently competing in track and field, including St. Kitts and Nevis, Dominica, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, which it is unusual to see them competing with large numbers of athletes. That´s the magic of these V ALBA Games,’ Phyllis told Prensa Latina.
This allows us to dream. Rescuing these ALBA Games leads us to think that we are opening a path for a better future, Phyllis added.
We saw outstanding marks such as 17.23m in triple jump; in other words, records that are seen in world championships, 51 seconds in 400m, and 10.26 in 100m.
Including junior competitors was a timely and beneficial idea because it provides them with the chance of competing with skilled opponents, which benefits their athletic development, said Phyllis.
