Abdala vaccine candidate study began in Cuba province

The health intervention study of the anti-Covid-19 Abdala vaccine candidate, began today in this central province, by workers linked to the health sector and Medical Sciences students.

The provincial director of Public Health, Angel Batista, pointed out that 27 vaccination center are enabled with all the conditions to apply the first dose to more than 20,000 people.

He pointed out that health personnel, including students of the branch, are the most at risk of contracting the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, which caused the pandemic, since they have been on the red line of hospitals, polyclinics and isolation centers for more than a year.

Batista affirmed that the immunization process will be extended until May 20 in the Ciego de Avila territory, and the authorized points have all the logistics and previously trained personnel.

Created by scientists from the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology and the AICA Laboratories of the drug producing company, Abdala is one of the five vaccine candidates under study in Cuba against Covid-19.

After the three phases of clinical trials have been effectively completed, the vaccine shows safety and immunogenicity, so it will gradually benefit other risk groups of the population.
